We all read papers... mostly as PDFs. Every once in a while I come across one, that I can't access. e.g Aging Cell is not accessible to me.
So what do you do?
Although more and more Journals are open access up front or with delay, we will still have some which are not. I usually ask
1) friends and acquiantances at other Univ for them or
2) the corresponding author directly

I was wondering how other scientists deal with this issue to see if there is better way.

hi varsha
yes sometimes getting papers can be difficult, especially the latest ones.... i too either correspond with the author directly or ask friends of mine who have access to get them for me.

It must be said though everytime i have asked a scientist for his/her paper they have always responded positively never hesitating to lend a helping hand :)

I generally ask one of the authors for a copy, nearly always works.

the best is to write to the author for a reprint, however, institutions also tie up with each other for sharing of e-materials and papers, DELNET is an example, the member institutions write for the desired paper and these people get the paper from other institutions which might be subscribing to the journal or to the author.
