Connecting Every Scientist in The World
Scientist Solutions was started in December of 2004 with the mission to connect every scientist in the world. Just think how we can accelerate discovery and cures if we all work together, share resources, help each other solve routine lab problems?
In the book The Wisdom of Crowds: Why the Many Are Smarter Than the Few and How Collective Wisdom Shapes Business, Economies, Societies and Nations, James Surowiecki gives several examples to illustrate that "large groups of people are smarter than an elite few, no matter how brilliant - better at solving problems, fostering innovation, coming to wise decisions and even predicting the future."
All the scientists in the world will accomplish more than a group of Nobel Prize Laureates working together. In a chapter on collaborating in science the book describes how scientists working together from all over the world made a significant advancement with SARS.
The scientists from France, Singapore, Canada, the UK, and China took part in a "collaborative multicenter research project" organized by the WHO. The labs participated in daily teleconferences where they shared their work. On a WHO Website the labs posted electron-microscope photographs of viruses isolated from SARS victims and test results.
In just 30 days the group determined that this was not the flu but an entirely new disease, transmitted from person to person and that the cause was the Corona virus.
Years of research completed in just 30 days. Please share with us success stories of working together.
